Successful in his career



Fred Baber was born on November 6, 1925, in Winchester, Kentucky where he has remained his entire life. He graduated from Winchester High School in 1944. In 1950, he met his wife Johnnie at the skating rink on Main Street.

Mr. Baber had to build up his courage to ask Johnnie to help teach him how to skate, and they have been inseparable ever since. Fred married Johnnie on August 4, 1951. Fred began his career in Lexington at the Avon Army Depot.

Fred has also held various employment positions as: a furniture salesman, a Greyhound bus driver, an associate at Kroger and at A&P, a salesman for Singer Sewing Machines, and at The Winchester Sun. He was very successful in his career with the Winchester Sun where he was employed for 57 years.

He was highly recognized and was considered an exceptional employee only missing one day of work in his entire career. Fred’s outstanding career with the Winchester Sun was instrumental in delivering the local news to his community for decades.
