Helen Dawson Biography
Mrs. Helen Dawson was born on August 7, 1961 in Marianna, Florida to Mrs. Louise and the late Allen Speights. Helen was raised by her loving parents in Marianna, Florida and graduated Marianna High School in 1980. She married her husband of 36 years in 1981 and was blessed with 3 children, Tatasheanna, Tameka, and Christopher. She also fostered many other children in her community. She has 8 grandchildren that keep her very active.
From childhood on, Mrs. Dawson had the goal of being a police officer. Her goal growing up was to be able to protect the community that had supported her as she through childhood. She graduated from Chipola Jr. College in 1986 with her certificate in Corrections and then in 1987 she received her certificate in Law enforcement. After graduation, Helen began working with Jackson County Sheriff’s Department as a corrections officer. She quickly realized that working in the field was not the career for her and chose to move to the Jackson County Jail. In 1989, Helen felt her spiritual calling and decided to leave corrections to return home to be with her children and began the process of becoming ordained. For the next 9 years, Helen furthered her religious education and her relationship with the Lord. During this time, she was able to care for her grandmother and learned the desired to be a caregiver to others. She applied and accepted the position as Certified Nursing Assistant here at the Courtyard in 1998. For the last 19 years, Helen has strived to make sure all of her elders felt cared for and safe while under her care. She nurtured relationships with her coworkers and families as well. Helen has served the Courtyard in numerous departments, first as a CNA, then ward clerk and finally in 2014 she transitioned into Social Services.
Mrs. Dawson spends her time away from the Courtyard doing community service with her church Believers Outreach. She is involved with prison outreach programs, community support, women’s ministry and evangelistic work within the community. She also enjoys spending time with her grandchildren at the ballfield or basketball courts.
Helen is being honored for her service to her community, our elders and her Lord. She exemplifies Signature Healthcare’s Sacred Six guiding principles of Integrity, compassion, teamwork, respect, patience and positivity. She models her life by her favorite scriptures 1John 4:4 “for greater is he that is in me, than he that is in the world” and Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
