Bio

Mr. John Daniel Rhodes was born on 12/4/1928 in Glasgow, Virginia. He attended Natural Bridge High school before joining the US Coast Guard and then the US Navy serving his country for two tours from 1945-1952. In 1952 Mr. Rhodes married the love of his life Gertrude and they later welcomed their only son Larry.
Mr. Rhodes then began a career on the railroad for Frisco railroad which later became the Burlington Norton (BN) railroad. His career spanned over 38 years beginning as a brakeman and later becoming a conductor. One of Mr. Rhodes fondest memories is of his son following in his footsteps with a career on the railroad. John is a man who believes in serving his community which is why he has been a lifelong member of not only the Masons but the Shriners as well. He is most proud of his 30 year service as a deacon of Beach Haven Baptist Church.
Mr. Rhodes favorite pastimes include sports because he is a big Florida Gators fan and absolutely loves the New York Yankees with baseball being his favorite sport. He always enjoyed yard work, and spending time with his sweetheart. Mr. Rhodes has spent a lifetime helping others, always putting himself second. He often became a father figure to those in his family and community who did not have a positive male role model in their life. Mr. Rhodes is a proud veteran who loves his family and his country and we are extremely honored to recognize him for his distinguished military and community service.
